10 movie shots in Delhi University
1. Rockstar – (Hindu College, St. Stephens College and Shree Ram College of Commerce)
This blockbuster film has been shot throughout the DU campus where our very adorable Ranbir tried to woo Nargis. We can’t ever forget the scene where Heer and Jordan are dating each other as students of the University, or the song ‘Jo Bhi Mein’ which was shot at Hindu College. And yeah, other bites of the movie were shot in St Stephens and SRCC.
2. Band Baja Baraat (Hansraj College and Ramjas College)
Didn’t we all go gaga over this movie starring Anoushka Sharma, a girl who plans to be a wedding planner and Ranveer Singh, a street-smart urchin who gatecrashes a wedding to grab free food?
Well, their plan started with the famous break-pakora of Hansraj college, and the story covers most of Hansraj’s haunts and hangouts, giving you the authentic DU-ite feeling. Plus, the entire song – Tarkibein, was recorded in Hansraj college.
A few shots also cover Ramjas’ Library.
3. Fukrey (Miranda House)
Surprisingly, this all-male-protagonist film was shot in a women’s college. It was actually supposed to be recorded around SRCC, but the director (in some weird change of angle)got it shot in Miranda.
This movie which turns the lives of four boys upside down is entertaining, amusing, and so true to life. Boys, go ahead and get yourself a CD – its the only way you’ll be able to get inside an all-girls’ college.
4. Do Dooni Char-(Kirori Mal College)
A typical lower middle class family is somehow trying way too hard to finance their dream of having a car. Be it opening a hundred packets of detergents, or considering accepting bribes to increase marks, stars Neetu-Rishi Kapoor, attempt everything. Scenes from this heartwarming movie were shot around Kirori Mal College, where their daughter is taking a part in the annual fest.
5. Dev D (Hansraj College)
Another feather in Anurag Kashyap’s hat was this movie, which was shot all around and inside Hansraj college.
Dev falls in love with a prostitute after breaking up with his childhood love, Paro. He gets finds solace in drugs, and also develops an (obscenely unhealthy) fascination towards alcohol.
6. Special 26 (Miranda House)
In this movie Special 26, the CBI Headquarters is actually the super-famous great hall of Miranda house, where the fake police ends up busting the real police.
7. Akashvani (St. Stephens College)
A story of two hostellers falling in love, Akashvaani, was shot in campus and around the most sought after college of University of Delhi – St. Stephens. This romcom covers the lawns, college building and has tons of seasons featuring the hostels.
Akashvani shows how communication can breathe fresh life into most failing marriages.
8. Dil Dosti Etc. (Hindu College)
Dil, Dosti etc. is the tale of politics that goes around University of Delhi, and has friendship, romance, voting – all the colours of a student’s life.
9. Sahi Dhande Galat Bande (Hansraj College)
The directors Pravin Dabass and Udit Khurana were alumna of Hansraj, and decided to shoot their directorial debut in the college. The flick takes you all around their own college, the places they used to hang out in during their college times.
10) Tanu Weds Manu Returns (Ramjas College)
This blockbuster movie, which was a sequel to Tanu Weds Manu was shot in Ramjas College. This movie beautifully captures the essence of North Campus from e-rickshaws to maggi stalls.
Kangana plays the role of a student of a Ramjasian who is also an athlete.
